Christmas in Melbourne

In case you hadn't noticed (and how could you miss it!) - it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Bring the whole family to the city and celebrate the lights, music and frivolity that is the festive season with a range of great activities sure to get anyone in the spirit.

You'll find a giant LEGO Christmas Tree at Federation Square, an impressive feat that will awe children and adults alike. See it light up from November 27, set to your favourite Christmas Carols. Bring the kids along on December 6, 13 and 20 (10am - 3pm) and build your own Christmas decorations with LEGO, that you can take home! If you just happen to be a LOGO fan, visit the Atrium at Fed Sq for more clever models and displays - all created with the coloured bricks by the Melbourne LEGO community.

Flinders Street Station and Princes Bridge (St Kilda Road) are also lit up with festive cheer, and you'll find mistletoe on the Pedestrian Bridge from Southgate, just above Ponyfish Island.

Take the kids to the top of the Eureka Skydeck to send a FREE postcard to Santa from the highest post box in the Southern Hemisphere!

If you are looking for somewhere to host a last minute festive party, La Camera Southgate has a set menu offering for functions, while The Wharf Hotel is hosting the Wharf Backyard Bash on Friday 4, 11 and 18 December, with afternoon and evening packages for offices or groups looking to make merry before the year is out.

Music and song are a big part of Christmas in Melbourne. The Arts Centre will stage Our Christmas Gift on November 28, with carols and music, while Hamer Hall will host Christmas Carols with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on December 12 and 13. Return to Federation Square on Christmas Eve for an outdoor concert, or head to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for the Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight.

From December 5, discover children's Christmas activities and carollers at Southgate. The special Christmas show, face painting and balloon art will keep kids entertained, before the Salvation Army sing the afternoon away.

On Christmas Day, where will you lunch? Many of the restaurants by the Yarra offer Christmas Lunch packages for a range of budgets and cuisines.

Bangpop, Bohemian, World Bar, Wharf Hotel, Hophaus and Meat Market all have delicious menus to tempt you and your family, or jump aboard a Melbourne River Cruise for something completely different. They'll even do all the washing up!

Melbourne also has a range of activities that make excellent Christmas gifts! Pick up a voucher to the Eureka Skydeck, send a friend or family member to one of our delicious restaurants or think outside the box and simply pack a picnic for a day by the Yarra.
