SummerSalt Festival 2015

Home > Blog

A fantastic new festival is making its way to Melbourne this summer, bringing art, theatre, dance and music to Southbank over five glorious weekends.

By day, families and friends can explore fun, free and low cost events, while in the evenings, Southbank will come alive with exciting outdoor concerts, street-art, theatre and cinema.

A collaboration of the Victorian Government and a number of Victoria’s leading arts groups – and Yarra River favourites – including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Arts Centre Melbourne, Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts, Chunky Move, Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Theatre Company, National Gallery of Victoria, The Australian Ballet and Victorian College of the Arts, the festival will come alive from 23 Jan and continue through til 21 Feb.

A few of our fave events are highlighted below. Head to for more info and a full listing of activities.

Exxopolis – ACCA Forecourt
A dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes, a monumental inflatable structure designed to generate a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and colour. Be transported to a colour filled universe of architecture and cathedrals in an inspiring mix of design and engineering, creating a luminarium of nearly 1000 square meters.

Ideal for all ages.

Bold as Brass: Music of the Streets – Federation Square to Testing Grounds

This all-clapping, all-dancing, all-enjoyment, free event is guaranteed to have you bopping and hopping with delight and pleasure from Federation Square to Testing Grounds, where a celebration of all that is classical, jazz, gospel, delicate and loud will take place!
