A Yarra River New Year

As the end of 2015 draws near, it's time to book your spot for the biggest party of the year.

With the announcement this week that the City of Melbourne have upped the New Year's Eve fireworks by 30% on last year's effort, our city is going to be in for a spectacular night.

Family friendly activities are set to take place at Yarra Park with kids entertainment, a screening for the 20th anniversary of Toy Story and fireworks at 9.30pm. The festival atmosphere will include games and food vendors, and all within walking distance to Richmond and Jolimont stations.

Along the river, a number of the hospitality venues are hosting events, with all night entertainment, food and beverage packages that mean you have a spot to party and a great view of the midnight fireworks.

World Carnivale at South Wharf is Melbourne's biggest NYE event, with exclusive views of the fireworks, and the option of a cocktail party style event, or a sit down dinner.

Bangpop will host an early dinner sitting, then a second, 7 course dinner package that will be sure to keep partygoers entertained. Plus 5 and Akachochin are hosting cocktail parties and degustation dinners as well - all with riverside views of the ground level fireworks.

Southgate's restaurants are ideal for those looking for a party with a bit of sophistication, with dinner packages and parties at all their restaurants while Eureka 89 is again hosting their Elevation party - Melbourne's highest party over 2 levels.

Spend Melbourne's biggest party night at Federation Square and be right in the heart of the action. M Factor is a concert full of colour, music and movement, kicking off at 8pm. The entertainment is free, and you'll be in a prime spot when the sky lights up.

Public transport is the best way to get into the city for the big night - and it's free! - and we recommend heading to the Kings Domain gardens, bordered by the Yarra for a 2015 music retrospective. DJ A.K will ring in the new year and you'll have a fantastic view of the midnight fireworks, launched from 17 sites around the CBD.

If your head isn't too sore on January 1, head to World Bar, or the Wharf Hotel and celebrate the first day of the new year with live music, cricket and recovery specials.

Have a safe and happy new year by the Yarra River!
